Pastoral / Missionary Works

Construction Work Completed in the Mission Stations

  • Construction work done at Calvary Station, a pilgrim center at Chingleput, for Rs. 5, 00, 000 with the help of Kinder Mission, Germany.
  • Renovation of the Church and Priest’s residence at Oragadam Parish to the tune of Rs. 6, 00, 000 with the local contribution. 
  • Renovation of the substations of Oragadam Parish worth Rs. 4, 00, 000. 
  • Renovation of the Presbytery of Padapai worth Rs. 4, 50, 000. 
  • Renovation of Church Tower at Padapai Parish worth Rs. 6, 00, 000.
  • Renovation of the Chapels at substations of Padapai to the tune of Rs. 3, 00, 000. 
  • Construction of Grotto and small chapel at mission stations of Padapai Parish to the value of Rs. 7, 00, 000. 
  • Construction of 4 houses for the poor for Rs. 2, 50, 000 each. 
  • Renovation of 8 huts worth Rs. 2, 00, 000 each.  

Missionary Focus in the Formation

  • Ever since its inception in 1936, Sacred Heart Seminary has been focusing preparing seminarians to be priests with a missionary zeal. In order to achieve this end, various villages nearby had been chosen that the students may be able to have an experience of meeting people from all walks of life. In his tenure as the Vice-Rector of the seminary from 2002 – 2008, he had great interest in the ministry to the villages and paid a special attention to this ministry by actively and personally going to villages and taking part in the different programs organized by the Seminarians and the youth. Philosophy students went to villages like, Senneerkuppam, Victoria Street, Keezhmaa Nagar, Kundraththur, Mangadu, Sippoy Nagar. The first year Students of theology were sent to different villages for Village Integral Animation, generally known as VIA. Melmanagar, Paruththippattu, Mettuppalayam, were some of the villages.
  • Pastoral Initiatives in the Parishes/Diocese
  • On-going formation for the priests and especially for the young clergy.
  • Formation of the diocesan seminarians- including the role of parents and Laity especially the Pious – Associations at various levels.
  • Forming the Basic Christian Communities, Parish Council, Finance Committee, Vincent de Paul Society, Legion of Mary, Altar Servers Group, Women Group, Living Rosary Movement, Kolping, AA (to help the drug addicts), Lay preachers and Evangelization in villages. 
  • Inter-religious dialogue, Ecumenical Christmas Carol & Celebrations at Chingleput and Padapai.
  • Ecumenical Convention - 2016 at Padappai for three days.
  • Helping the pilgrims to Our Lady’s Shrine at Vailankanni by providing water, food and medical care at Chingleput Cathedral.
  • Special attention to the promotion of education among the poor and especially the girls.
  • Promoting the Laity for a different role in the Diocesan Administration.
  • Generating and promoting local contribution towards Mission.
  • Supporting the poor families to become self-reliance. 
  • Formation of the Lay people to become “Extra-ordinary ministers.”
